I think Gatsby hosts his big parties for two main reasons. The reason in the book states that Gatsby hosts them because he wants to see if Daisy would ever show up to one of them. This is why he allows stangers to come, because he hopes that Daisy would one day just walk in. The other main reason is because I think he is sometimes insecure about himself. He has a lot of money and doesn't need all of it for himself. He can have these big parties so that he can see how other people act. I think he may have some sort of trauma due to the war. He may be re-learning how to interact and socialize with other people.
